So what is it?

Codex QQ Skin is a theme generator that gives the Codex or ChatGPT desktop app a retro appearance based on the classic 2007 QQ chat client, a Chinese instant messenger. It supports both Mac, through a native macOS app or terminal install, and Windows, through a native installer. It is an unofficial project and states clearly that it does not modify the official app files, code signing, API keys, or base URLs of Codex or ChatGPT. The skin offers three modes you can switch between at any time: the original native Codex interface, a fixed blue and silver QQ styled interface that ignores any custom images, and a custom mode that keeps Codex's native layout but generates colors and focal points from a picture you upload. Uploaded images are analyzed and processed entirely on your own machine and are never sent anywhere over the network. A built in deep skin assistant can generate a themed skin from just a short text description, such as asking for an Iron Man themed skin, producing reference images, background art, and layered assets automatically before installing and applying the result. The app also shows a local usage dashboard with your own Codex token counts for today, the past seven days, and all time, calculated only from local session logs on your machine, along with a QQ style leveling system based on activity. Other features include completion and approval sound effects that mimic old QQ notification sounds, a management panel for multiple saved custom skins, automatic update checks, and one command scripts to start, customize, verify, pause, or fully restore the official Codex appearance. Technically, it works by attaching to Codex's Chromium DevTools Protocol on your local machine only, and injecting CSS and decorative elements into the interface while leaving the underlying conversation, sidebar, and input areas as native Codex components. Because the released Windows and macOS builds are not code signed by a registered developer certificate, first launch may trigger a security warning that needs to be manually approved.
