So what is it?

KnowGT is a plugin for Claude Code, the AI-powered command-line tool, that generates daily briefings about what is popular on GitHub Trending. The name stands for "Know GitHub Trending." The README is written primarily in Chinese, with an English version available in a separate file. The core idea is to reduce the time it takes to understand what projects are gaining attention on GitHub. Instead of clicking through each of the 25 daily trending entries and reading technical descriptions that may be hard to interpret, the tool generates two report files: a short briefing meant to be read in about five minutes, and a longer detailed report that explains each new project in plain language. Each project explanation answers three questions: what the project actually is, what problem it solves, and who would benefit from using it. The tool also compares today's trending list against previous days to distinguish genuinely new entries from projects that have been popular for a while. New entries get full explanations, repeating entries are noted briefly. A separate section highlights projects that are gaining stars quickly but have not yet appeared on the official trending list, described as an early-signal feature for spotting projects before they peak in visibility. Installation works through a one-line shell command on macOS or Linux, a PowerShell command on Windows, or manual file copying. After installation and restarting Claude Code, users can trigger a briefing by typing a slash command or by asking in plain language, such as "what's trending on GitHub today." Both English and Chinese versions of the skill are included, each generating reports in the respective language. The project is licensed under MIT.
