What is bending-spoons-ontology?

bending-spoons-ontology is a demonstration project by a company called Play New that builds a queryable model of how another company, Bending Spoons, actually works. Bending Spoons buys established digital products such as Evernote, WeTransfer, and Vimeo, improves how they run, and reinvests the profits into buying the next company. This repository turns everything publicly known about that process, taken only from Bending Spoons' official IPO filings, into a structured model you can ask questions about rather than a slide deck you just read. The project is set up as an MCP server, a way for AI assistants like Claude to connect to external tools. Once connected, you can ask plain language questions such as how Bending Spoons decides what to acquire, how its acquisition process works step by step, or how strong a particular brand in its portfolio currently looks. The server exposes about 27 tools covering understanding the company, scouting for acquisition targets using public filings data, running through the actual deal evaluation math Bending Spoons is reported to use, and even drafting hiring assessments based on the company's published hiring criteria. Any tool that would write or change something in the model always waits for a person to approve it first, and hiring related scoring is explicitly limited to giving advice rather than making a decision on its own. The project draws a firm line between two things. One part is the model itself, which sticks strictly to facts pulled from official filings, with every claim linked back to its source document. The other part is a single separate essay, clearly marked as an argued opinion rather than a fact, that speculates about how the company might change if it shifted its focus from owning products to owning shared knowledge and data. Setting it up requires Python 3.10 or newer and cloning the repository, then pointing Claude Desktop or Claude Code at a small local server script with a short configuration change. The project explicitly states it is a one time snapshot built from filings as of mid 2026, not a live or maintained product, and that it has no affiliation with Bending Spoons itself.
