So what is it?

Weaving Type is a creative tool built for TouchDesigner, a visual programming software used by artists and designers to build interactive visuals and installations. This particular tool takes text, images, or 3D shapes and turns them into a soft, drooping woven fabric made of curved threads, as if the words or pictures were stitched out of loose cloth hanging under its own weight. You can feed it three kinds of input. Type any word and choose its font, weight, and size and the tool weaves that text into thread form. Feed it a photo or logo and it weaves the shapes found in the image, and can even pull its thread colors from the image itself. Or pipe in a 3D shape or particle system and it weaves that geometry instead. The tool gives you live controls over how the weave looks, including thread spacing, weight, density, how much the threads sag or drape, and color palettes ranging from single tone to multiple tones. It also supports gravity and 3D perspective with rotation, so the woven result can spin and hang naturally in three dimensions. One of its more distinct features is direct interaction. You can reach into the weave with your mouse, or with a tracked point from another source such as a camera, and either hover to make threads sag under your cursor or click and drag to physically grab and pull threads before they spring back into place. Installation is done by copying a component file into TouchDesigner's palette folder or dragging it directly into a project. It requires TouchDesigner version 2023.30000 or newer. The tool started as a port of an earlier project called WeavingType by another creator and grew from there into this full real time version. It is free to use in personal or commercial projects as long as you keep credit and do not resell it.
