CET Skill is an AI-powered study assistant for Chinese university students preparing for the CET-4 and CET-6 English proficiency exams. These are standardized national exams in China that test college students on writing, translation, reading, and listening in English. The repository is written in Chinese. The assistant was built by using an AI coding tool called Codex to analyze ten years of actual past exam papers from 2015 to 2025. It processed 473 files, identified 217 that contained real exam content, and extracted patterns about how questions are structured, what topics appear frequently, how difficult the texts tend to be, and what kinds of wrong answer options typically appear. The goal was to build a practice system that generates new questions in the same style as real exams rather than just recycling old ones. When a student starts a session, the assistant asks which exam they are targeting, which skill they want to focus on, their current score, their target score, and their exam date. Based on those answers, it enters a training mode for that skill. For writing, it generates a question on a trending topic, waits for the student to submit an essay, then scores it across dimensions like structure, grammar, vocabulary, and whether the essay sounds like it was written from a template. For translation, it generates a Chinese paragraph to translate and then analyzes the student's submission for accuracy and natural English expression. Reading practice distinguishes between three specific question formats that appear on the real exams. Listening practice generates scripts and waits for the student to answer before explaining the key listening points. The design principle throughout is that students answer first and see explanations afterward, rather than reading an answer key passively. The assistant also generates individualized study plans based on a student's specific score gap and how much time they have before the exam.
