What is awesome-taiwan-project?

This repository is a curated list of projects made by independent developers in Taiwan. It collects websites, apps, games, and open source tools built by people working on their own, often as side projects rather than as products of a company. The list is organized into sections. The main page covers websites and apps that anyone can open and start using right away, without needing to write code or run commands. Two separate pages branch off from this one: an engineer edition that lists open source projects and command line tools, and a games edition that lists independently made Taiwanese video games. Each entry names the developer or team behind a project, often with a link to their GitHub profile or official site, followed by a short description of what the project does and, where relevant, some background on its history, adoption numbers, or awards it has won. Projects are marked with a status: still in development, currently live, or closed and no longer maintained. The projects listed span a wide range of categories: personal finance and expense tracking apps, earthquake and weather alert tools, public transit trackers, Chinese language conversion utilities, dictionaries for Mandarin and Taiwanese, civic technology platforms that use open government data, browser extensions, custom fonts, and educational tools including translated technical books. To have a project added to the list, the README points contributors to a separate contributing guide and asks them to submit a pull request or open an issue. This is a community maintained directory rather than a piece of software itself, so there is no installation or setup involved in using it: it exists to help good independently built work get discovered, and to give people considering independent development in Taiwan a sense of who has already built things and how far they got.
