What is eridian?

Eridian is a plugin for Claude Code that makes the assistant talk in the terse alien dialect of Rocky, a character from the novel Project Hail Mary, while also cutting down on how many output tokens each response uses. The idea is borrowed from an earlier project called caveman, which did the same trick with a caveman voice, this plugin reimplements the concept from scratch with an Eridian theme. Once installed, you can turn the dialect on and off with a command, or simply tell Claude to talk like Rocky, and the setting will stay on across sessions until you turn it off. There are three intensity levels: lite gives the biggest token savings with only light flavor, full is a balance of savings and personality, and ultra leans fully into the Eridian voice even though it can end up costing more tokens than plain terse English. The plugin also adds shorter versions of everyday commands, such as writing a terse commit message from your staged changes or giving a one line per finding code review. A small animated character named Rocky lives in your terminal statusline. He has no eyes and five legs, matching how Eridians are described in the book, and he shuffles around, reacts to what you type, celebrates when your session passes certain token saving milestones, and appears to sleep when you are idle. He can only move as often as Claude Code refreshes the statusline, and you can slow his animation down with a command if he feels too jumpy. The README is upfront that the token savings are estimates based on a small set of test runs, and that the more talkative ultra mode can actually use more tokens than simply asking Claude to answer concisely, while the lite mode is the one that reliably saves the most. Development uses Node's built in test runner with no extra dependencies, and the project is released under the MIT license.
