What is roomate?

RooMate is a Mac desktop app built for students at Abington Friends School. It pulls together everything a student needs to stay organized into one window: class schedules, sports practices and games, school events, and club meetings. Instead of checking separate websites, spreadsheets, and calendars, a student can open this app and see their whole day at a glance. The app works by automatically pulling information from sources the school already uses. Athletics schedules come from Google Sheets, and school events come from the school's standard calendar feeds. The app organizes all of that data into a clean dashboard showing what is happening today, along with dedicated sections for different parts of student life like sports and clubs. Students can also customize how the app looks with different themes and styles. This is designed specifically for the AFS community, so the users are students at that school. A high schooler could use it to check when their next class starts, whether their game is home or away, and what club meetings are happening this week. Middle and lower school students have their own calendar feeds they can follow. The project roadmap mentions adding features like a "RooPac Tracker" and a Windows version, so the developer has plans to expand it further. The app is built using Apple's SwiftUI framework, which is the standard way to create native Mac applications. The notable tradeoff is that it currently only runs on macOS, meaning students without a Mac cannot use it, though a Windows version is planned. Also, while the code is publicly visible, the project is explicitly noted as private and not open source.
