Requires a Nintendo Switch running custom firmware such as Atmosphere with the Homebrew Menu installed.
CroMagRallySwitch is a fan made port that brings Cro-Mag Rally, an old racing game originally released in 2000 by Pangea Software for Mac computers, to the Nintendo Switch as unofficial homebrew. In the original game you play a caveman named Brog, racing primitive vehicles through the Stone, Bronze, and Iron Ages while throwing weapons like bone bombs and heat seeking homing pigeons at other racers. Alongside normal racing there are multiplayer modes such as tag, capture the flag, and survival, with up to four people able to play together on one screen. This particular fork takes an existing modern rebuild of the game for macOS, Windows, and Linux and adapts it to run on a Nintendo Switch that has custom firmware and a homebrew menu installed. It reuses the approach from a similar port of another Pangea game, Nanosaur, and is built using the devkitPro and libnx tools that homebrew developers commonly use for the Switch. To install it, a player copies a single file to a folder on their Switch's SD card and launches it from the Homebrew Menu, and their game settings and records are then saved to that same SD card. On the Switch, the game supports both Joy-Con controllers and Pro Controllers, and it keeps the same four player local split screen mode from the modern rebuild, showing the usual controller pairing screen when more than one player joins. There is a document listing gamepad cheat codes specific to playing on the Switch. The modern rebuild this port is based on already improves on the original by fixing bugs, refreshing the interface for widescreen displays, adding an optional timer and scoreboard for race modes, and supporting up to four players instead of the original two, though multiplayer over a local network from the original release has not yet been brought back. The port is shared with permission from Pangea Software and is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution NonCommercial ShareAlike license, meaning it can be shared and adapted but not sold.
